For Parents
Draft for review. This document is a starting point written by Vine’s team and has not yet been reviewed by an attorney. It is not a substitute for legal advice. If you’re a user and have questions about your rights, contact us at vineteamapp@gmail.com.
Vine is a practice-investing app for kids ages 7–17. Your child learns how the stock market works using real prices but fake (practice) cash — no real money is ever involved, and Vine can never touch a real bank account. This page explains, in plain English, exactly what we collect from your child, how we use it, and the rights you have as their parent or guardian.
Who we are
Vine is run by a small team. If you ever have a question or a request about your child’s account, email vineteamapp@gmail.com — a real person reads everything that arrives there and we aim to reply within 30 days (usually much sooner).
What Vine collects from your child
- Name — optional; whatever they type during setup, or what comes from a Google sign-in.
- Age range— “7–9”, “10–12”, or “13–17”. We never ask for an exact birthdate.
- Email — used to sign in and sync progress across devices.
- In-app practice activity— their simulated portfolio, which lessons they’ve finished, and any savings goal they set. All practice, no real money.
What Vine does NOT do
- We do not sellyour child’s data — ever.
- We do not show ads and we do not track your child across other apps or sites.
- We do not share their personal information with other companies for marketing.
- We don’t collect location, photos, contacts, or any advertising identifier.
- We don’t let other users message your child or see their personal data.
How parental consent works (under 13)
If an under-13 age range is chosen during setup, Vine requires a parent or guardian to enter their own name and email and give explicit consent before your child finishes setting up and before we save their profile details. We record that consent with a timestamp so there’s a clear record. If you don’t consent, your child can’t complete setup — and you can remove the sign-in entirely (see below).
Because Vine never shares children’s data with third parties and shows no ads, we use the FTC-recognized “email plus” consent method. We’re adding a parent email-confirmation step to strengthen this further.
Your rights as a parent
You can do all of these at any time:
- Reviewwhat we have — it’s all visible inside the app (portfolio, lessons, goals, account).
- Delete it. In the app, go to Account → Delete accountto permanently erase your child’s account and all their data. Or email us and we’ll handle it.
- Withdraw consent. Email vineteamapp@gmail.com and we’ll stop any further collection and delete what we have.
- Refuse further collection while keeping the account — just let us know.
Supervising your child
We recommend you set up and supervise any account for a child under 13. Vine is built to be safe — it’s educational, uses no real money, and has no chat or social features — but a grown-up nearby always makes the learning better. Remember: nothing in Vine is real investing or financial advice. It’s practice.
