# Frequently asked questions

Questions from kids, parents and teachers. Still stuck? Email vineteam@vineteach.com.

### What is Vine?

Vine is a free app where kids and teens learn how money and investing work. You take short, interactive lessons, earn XP and seeds, and learn with practice money, so there is zero risk.

### Is it real money?

No. It's practice money, for learning. You can't lose (or win) real dollars on Vine, and nobody can buy anything with it.

### How much practice money do I get?

It depends on your age band: $1,000 for ages 7–9, $4,000 for ages 10–12, and $10,000 for ages 13–17 and 18+.

### Is Vine really free?

Yes. Every lesson and feature is free. There are no ads and no paid tier.

### What happens if I get an answer wrong?

Nothing bad. You see the right answer and why, and the question comes back once at the end so you can try again. There are no hearts or lives to lose.

### Do I lose anything if I skip a day?

Only your streak. The streak counts the days in a row you finish a lesson, and a whole day without one starts it again from zero. Your lessons, XP, seeds and practice money stay right where you left them.

### Who are Scout, Blaze, Ace, Berry and Otto?

Your guides. Scout teaches the foundations, Blaze the middle ground, Ace markets and charts, Berry asks what could go wrong, and Otto, a retired investor, asks the hard questions and is honest about how much luck plays a part.

### Why do the lessons use 7% a year?

7% is roughly the long-run average yearly return of the U.S. stock market after inflation, so results are in today's dollars. It's an average, not a promise: real years go up and down.

### Is this financial advice?

No. Vine teaches how money works in general. It never tells you to buy a specific stock.

### How do leagues work?

You grow through four leagues, Seed, Sprout, Sapling and Oak, with your own XP. There's no deadline, and nobody else is in them: Vine never ranks you against other people.

### What is the practice timer?

On the Learn page you can start a timer for the daily goal you picked (or no goal). Reaching it gets a little celebration. Stopping early is completely fine, and nothing carries over to tomorrow.

### What is My money?

A page where you can note real money you get and spend. It stays on this device only: Vine never sends it anywhere. It does arithmetic and never tells you what to do with your money.

### What do you save about me?

On this device: your Vine name, age range, avatar, lesson progress and practice portfolio, locked with your password when you sign out. With an account, Vine's servers also keep your sign-in, your age range and opening answers, your Vine name, which version of the Terms you accepted, and, if a grown-up connects to you, your lesson progress and minutes a day. Your My money notes never leave this device. There's no tracking and no ads.
